Basketball, Youth Travel Program

The SPR Travel Basketball program is open to Boys and Girls in Grades 3-6. The Maine Basketball League is the league we are participating in for 2026-2027. Game locations for this league include Maine Basketball Academy, Maine Sports Arena, Portland Sports Complex, St. James, Biddeford Middle School, SoFive Sports, and many other locations in southern and central Maine. Saco Parks and Recreation will determine whether divisions are composed of single or combined grades based on registrations, coach availability, and participant age and ability.

Evaluation Deposit Fee: $70.00 due upon registration.
Registration Fee: $225.00 due in full once assigned to team and prior to player receiving uniform.
Fee covers all costs to enter into leagues, players clinics, tournaments, referees, practices & uniforms. All fees include uniforms and a shooting shirt. Uniforms must be returned at the end of the season. Players keep the shooting shirts.

Evaluation Day: Evaluations will be held at the Saco Community Center Gym on Sunday, November 1st, 2027.
Girls 4th: 10:00-11:00am
Girls 5th & 6th: 11:15am- 12:15pm
Boys 4th: 12:30pm-1:30pm
Boys 5th: 1:45pm- 2:45pm
Boys 6th: 3:00pm-4:00pm

Note for 3rd grade families: Please be aware that although we are allowing 3rd graders to tryout, our teams will be playing in a 4th grade division, as this is the youngest grade level offered in The Maine Basketball League.

All athletes who do not make a Travel team will have the opportunity to register for our Recreation Basketball program. Your deposit for Travel will be credited to your SPR household account. If you choose not to register in the Recreation program, your full Travel payment may be refunded upon request.

Practices start the week of November 9th, 2026. Please note that specific practice days and times will not be released until the week after evaluations. Boys practices will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays. Girls practices will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Practices will be held between the hours of 5:00 and 9:00pm. Teams may occasionally also have games on Friday evenings. We are unable to determine coaches until teams are formed and will plan practice times once teams are finalized.
Practice Locations: Saco Community Center Gym and Linnell Gymnasium at Thornton Academy
League Regular Season Game Schedule: November 20th, 2026 – January 17th, 2027. Games may be on Friday evenings, Saturdays, and/or Sundays. Playoffs to follow.
Picture Day: Sunday, January 3rd, 2027
