SPR's Recreation Basketball Program 2023-2024
Registration is now open for SPR Recreation Basketball program for the 2023-2024 season!
Divisions this season include Start Smart for age 3, PreK-Kinder, and Boys and Girls grades 1-6 divisions. Start Smart & PreK - Kinder Registration Deadline: Friday December 8th, 2023

General Program Info
• SPR Staff: Meg Gribbin, Steve Brown, and Joseph Paul
• Recreation Basketball: Each week participants will learn the game of basketball with a combination of practice and game play. Skill development will focus on dribbling, shooting, passing, sportsmanship, and teamwork. SPR Recreation Basketball is a great program for participants to work on learning and building on fundamental skills with game opportunities offered in a friendly competitive setting.

*Schedule Disclaimer: Weekday practice schedules listed below are tentative and subject to change based on registrations. Saco Parks and Recreation reserves the right to expand divisions and move practices to other weeknights or times to accommodate more participants in a division.
Boys 5&6: Tuesdays*, starting December 5, 2023
Girls 5&6: Tuesdays*, starting December 5, 2023
Boys 3&4: Tuesdays*, starting December 5, 2023
Practices will be held between 5:00-8:00pm with times determined by registrations and team numbers.
Girls 3&4: Wednesdays*, starting December 6, 2023
Practices will be held between 5:00-8:00pm with times determined by registrations and team numbers.
Girls 1&2: Fridays*, starting January 5, 2024
Boys 1&2: Fridays*, starting January 5, 2024
Practices will be held between 6:00-8:00pm with times determined by registrations and team numbers.
• Picture Day is Saturday, January 6, 2024
• Games for Grades 1-6 divisions: Saturdays, starting January 13, 2024
• Locations this season include: Saco Community Center, C.K. Burns School, and Saco Middle School
• Registration Fee: $60.00/$65.00 through Wednesday, November 29, 2023 or as space allows
Start Smart and PreK-Kinder Coed Divisions Info
• Start Smart and PreK-Kinder Divisions practice on Saturdays, starting January 6, 2024 through February 17, 2024 at the Saco Community Center
• Start Smart Basketball for age 3 practices 8:30-9:15am (Parent Participation required at every session)
• PreK-Kinder teams will meet once per week, in a combination of practice and scrimmage. Sessions are held between 9:30am-11:30am on Saturdays. Each team's scheduled time will alternate weekly during the season within this time period.
• Registration Fee: $50.00/$55.00 through Friday, December 8th, 2023 or as space allows
Volunteer Coaches
SPR Youth Sports Programs rely on volunteer coaches. To start the Recreation Basketball season on time, SPR needs a coach in place for every team before any team practice or game schedule can be made available. With every program we run, we offer coaching assistance through practice plans, video and web-based instruction to even having full time staff provide assistance. We will offer a program credit to volunteers who step up as head coach. There are options to sign up to volunteer as a coach through your child's registration process.
