Basketball, Youth Recreation Program

• SPR Staff: Meg Gribbin, Dylan Griffin, and Cameron Place
• Recreation Basketball: Each week participants will learn the game of basketball with a combination of practice and game play. Skill development will focus on dribbling, shooting, passing, sportsmanship, and teamwork. SPR Recreation Basketball is a great program for participants to work on learning and building on fundamental skills with game opportunities offered in a friendly competitive setting.

Weeknight Practice Info:
*Schedule Disclaimer: Weekday practice schedules listed below are tentative and subject to change based on registrations. Saco Parks and Recreation reserves the right to expand divisions and move practices to other weeknights or times to accommodate more participants in a division.

Boys 5&6: Tuesdays or Thursdays*, starting December 1 or 3, 2026
Girls 5&6: Tuesdays or Thursdays*, starting December 1 or 3, 2026
Boys 3&4: Mondays or Tuesdays*, starting November 30, or December 1, 2026
Practices will be held between 5:00-8:00pm with times determined by registrations and team numbers.

• Games for Grades 1-6 divisions: Saturdays, starting January 9, 2027
• Locations this season include: Saco Community Center, C.K. Burns School, and Saco Middle School
• Registration Fee: $70.00/$75.00 through November 13, 2026 or as space allows

• Start Smart and PreK-Kinder Divisions practice on Saturdays, starting January 9, 2027 through February 13, 2027 at the Saco Community Center
• Start Smart Basketball for age 3 and 4 practices 8:30-9:15am (Parent Participation required at every session)
• Registration Fee: $70.00/$75.00 through Friday, November 27th, 2026 or as space allows

• PreK-Kinder teams will meet once per week, in a combination of practice and scrimmage. Sessions are held between 9:30am-11:30am on Saturdays. Each team's scheduled time will alternate weekly during the season within this time period.

This is a combined coed division. PreK=currently enrolled in PreK or eligible for Kindergarten in Fall 2027. Kinder=currently in Kindergarten.

SPR Youth Sports Programs rely on volunteer coaches. To start the Recreation Basketball season on time, SPR needs a coach in place for every team before any team practice or game schedule can be made available. With every program we run, we offer coaching assistance through practice plans and full time staff assistance. We will offer a program credit to volunteers who step up as head coach. There are options to sign up to volunteer as a coach through your child's registration process. Thank you in advance for supporting our programs! Our coaches are what make our programs a success and without your help, our programs would not be possible.
